Annie Bot - Greer

 Annie Bot

- Sierra Greer

This book was one of those layered stories, like an apartment building.

Floor one - A cool idea about owning robots.

Floor two - An uncomfortable story about how we might treat robots in the future.

Floor three - An equally uncomfortable theme about domestic abuse in today's world.

Floor four - A story about finding the power to leave an abusive partner.

All that from a story about a sexbot?!

This book made me think about how we treat machines. I'm sure all of us have gotten mad at the Alexa, or the google search, or that god damned printer that seems to have a personal vendetta against me. I'm sure we've all found ourselves swearing at the pieces of plastic, maybe giving it a swat or two, and definitely threating to throw the device out then go to Best Buy and get the latest and greatest version. And, that seems normal.
But, what if the device was a robot that resembled a human. That was supposed to be your companion, your partner, your lover...would it still be okay to treat it like I treat my google home? Is it even morally acceptable to create a human replacement, just to control it and have it follow your every wish? And, on top of that, would this kind of thing ruin our humanity on a personal level?

Annie Bot brought up so many questions.
